Transparent Pricing: How We Quote and What’s Included in Your FOB Price

Price is one of the first things buyers ask about — and one of the most misunderstood. A low quote can hide extra costs; a high quote may include services you actually need. At China Guangzhou Hestia Houseware Co., Ltd., we believe pricing should be clear, itemized, and comparable. No hidden fees, no vague “all-in” numbers that fall apart later.

This article explains exactly how we build a quotation, what’s included in a standard FOB price, what’s not, and how to compare glassware supplier quotes fairly. Whether you’re ordering 1,000 pieces or 100,000, transparency is the foundation of a good partnership.

1. What Is FOB, and Why Do We Quote FOB?

FOB stands for Free On Board. In practice, an FOB price covers the cost of your goods delivered to the named port of shipment (for us, usually Guangzhou or Shenzhen, China). Once the goods are loaded onto the vessel, risk and further costs transfer to you, the buyer.

We quote FOB because it’s the most transparent and widely used Incoterm in B2B glassware trade. It lets you see the product cost clearly, separate from freight and insurance, which vary by destination and can be arranged by your own forwarder. If you prefer CIF, DDP, or another term, we can quote those too — but FOB is our standard because it’s the easiest to compare.

2. What’s Included in Our FOB Price

Every FOB quotation we send includes the following, unless specifically stated otherwise:

  • Product manufacturing cost — raw materials, labour, energy, and factory overhead

  • Standard packaging — individual wrapping, inner dividers, and export-grade outer cartons

  • Logo decoration (if applicable and agreed) — screen printing, laser engraving, or decal as specified

  • In-house quality control — in-line inspections, annealing checks, and final AQL sampling

  • Third-party test reports — for FDA, LFGB, or other required certifications (upon request)

  • Documentation — commercial invoice, packing list, and certificate of origin

  • Loading onto vessel — including palletizing if required

  • FOB port charges — terminal handling and related fees at the origin port

In short, our FOB price gets your goods from our factory floor onto the ship, fully documented and inspected.

3. What’s Not Included in Our FOB Price

To avoid surprises, here’s what is not included in a standard FOB quote:

  • Ocean freight — cost varies by destination, season, and carrier

  • Marine insurance — we recommend you arrange all-risk coverage for glassware

  • Import duties and taxes — payable in your destination country

  • Destination port charges — unloading, terminal fees, and customs brokerage

  • Inland transportation — from your port to your warehouse

  • Custom packaging beyond standard — rigid gift boxes, wooden cases, or special inserts may add cost

  • Third-party inspection fees — if you hire an independent inspector, that’s billed separately

  • Mould costs for custom projects — quoted separately and transparently

We’ll always tell you what’s extra before you commit, so you can budget accurately.

4. How We Build a Quotation: Step by Step

When you request a quote, here’s what happens behind the scenes:

  1. Product specification review — we confirm material, size, wall thickness, and finish.

  2. Packaging review — standard or custom? What carton dimensions and inserts?

  3. Decoration review — logo method, colors, and placement.

  4. Quantity confirmation — MOQ or your target volume.

  5. Cost calculation — raw materials, labour, packaging, QC, and documentation.

  6. Margin application — a fair and sustainable margin, not the highest possible.

  7. Quote delivery — itemized and clear, usually within 1–2 business days.

For custom mould projects, we also provide a separate mould cost quote with lifespan and reorder terms.

5. Why Our Quotes Are Itemized

Some suppliers give a single number. We prefer to break it down:

  • Unit price per piece

  • Packaging cost per carton

  • Decoration cost per piece (if applicable)

  • Mould cost (if applicable)

  • Sample cost (if applicable)

This makes it easy for you to see where your money goes and to compare quotes from different suppliers on a like-for-like basis. It also helps you make decisions — for example, if you want to reduce cost, we can suggest changing packaging or decoration rather than compromising on glass quality.

6. How to Compare Glassware Quotes Fairly

Not all quotes are created equal. Here’s a checklist to compare suppliers objectively:

  • Does the quote include packaging? Some suppliers quote glass only, then add packaging later.

  • What’s the wall thickness? Thinner glass costs less but breaks more.

  • Is annealing quality guaranteed? Cheap quotes may skip proper annealing.

  • Are test reports included? FDA, LFGB, and other certifications cost money.

  • What’s the breakage allowance? If not specified, you may bear all risk.

  • What’s the lead time? A lower price with a longer lead time can cost you sales.

  • Is the mould cost amortized or separate? Understand the total investment.

We’re happy to help you review other quotes — just ask. We’d rather compete on transparency than on hidden shortcuts.

7. Real Example: How a FOB Quote Breaks Down

Here’s a simplified example for a 350 ml soda-lime tumbler with a one-color screen-printed logo, 10,000 pieces:

Cost Component Amount (USD)
Glass manufacturing $0.42 / piece
Screen printing (1 color) $0.05 / piece
Standard packaging $0.03 / piece
QC and documentation $0.01 / piece
FOB unit price $0.51 / piece
Total FOB value $5,100

Ocean freight, insurance, duties, and destination charges are quoted separately by your forwarder or broker. This breakdown helps you see exactly what you’re paying for.

8. How We Keep Pricing Stable and Predictable

Glassware costs can fluctuate due to raw material prices, energy costs, and exchange rates. We do our best to keep pricing stable:

  • Quote validity: We typically hold quoted prices for 30 days.

  • Raw material hedging: We buy in bulk to smooth price swings.

  • Transparent adjustments: If a major cost change occurs, we tell you before production starts, not after.

  • No surprise fees: If something isn’t in the quote, we ask before adding it.

We want you to feel confident that the price we agree on is the price you’ll pay.
